Week 20 Shipped: SearchRecalls, 25,372 Government Records Behind One Search Box
Week 20's build is live: SearchRecalls. Type a brand, product, or model into one box and search 25,372 official recall records, 10,053 from the CPSC and 15,319 from NHTSA, with the risk in plain language and the official remedy steps. A nightly job pulls fresh records from both agencies.
The data covers everything; the site is built for parents. 2,044 of those records are baby products, car seats, cribs, strollers, sleepers, toys, and that is the whole front door, because recall anxiety lives with people holding a secondhand bassinet. The rest of the records exist but stay out of the sitemap. Vehicles get sent to NHTSA's own VIN lookup rather than a worse copy of it.
The affiliate rule with teeth
Money model: free search, free category alerts, and an Amazon affiliate link on each recall page pointing at a safer replacement of the same product type. Two rules make it something I can defend. The link never goes to the recalled product. And for suffocation-prone categories like loungers and inclined sleepers, it does not even go to the same product type, it points at a safer one. Every link carries the paid-link disclosure inline. 10,124 of the 10,126 pages have one.
Also carried over from Scammer Checker: the site never says a product is safe. No match reads "no match in records," because an absence in a database is not a certification, and the day this site hands out false comfort is the day it should go dark.
What's still plumbing
Alert signups collect from day one but nothing sends yet; that needs an email service and a nightly matching job, and it is the top of next week's list alongside getting the sitemap into Search Console. Launch-week zeros across the board, and the affiliate math waits on search traffic, which took AI Gift Pro about two months to find. The build page tracks it from here. Build #21 ships tomorrow.
