Week 16: Subscriber Number One

For fifteen weeks, the most honest number on this site was the zero next to "subscribers." I wrote a whole Start Here page around it, and made a promise in it: sign up while the count reads zero and you are verifiably early, and I will remember it. Someone did. The count reads 1. This post is the remembering.

To subscriber number one

Whoever you are: you subscribed to a newsletter with a published audience of nobody, from a project that has earned $79, on the strength of the story alone. That is either excellent judgment or reckless optimism, and around here we treat those as the same virtue. You are permanently first. When this list is large enough that being early means something, it will mean the most about you.

The rest of the scoreboard, honestly

X kept moving too: 76 followers, up from 29 two weeks ago, which at this scale means the distribution work is finally compounding a little. The money is where honesty earns its keep: still $79 total, September sitting at $0 so far, with two launch-fresh products, JotThread and Boring Millionaires, wearing day-one zeros and a no-free-tier conversion test running in public. Fourteen builds live. The curves that matter this month are audience curves, and both are finally bending.

Week 16, and a clock that outranks it

The whiteboard is open for this week's pick, three skills and two databases deep, the portfolio has instincts pulling both ways, and the idea box is live if you want to swing it. But part of this week is already spoken for by a calendar that does not care about new builds: Medicare enrollment season opens October 15, which is Medicare Decoder's entire year, and showing up unprepared for your one seasonal window is how portfolios stay at $79. Pick Monday, ship Friday, numbers here either way. And to number one: welcome. The seat was worth saving.
